well, home i is…it was the most exhausting 5 days…but rewarding nontheless. i had a great time…manning the registers…so here’s the break down of my trip to vegas…now keep in mind it was for business…and i love how redken treats their employees…
friday night - arrived a little late into vegas…damn newark airport, took us over an hour on the runway to take off. but we got there…lights and sounds of vegas awaited…there were slot machines right when you walk out of the airport terminal…grabbed my bags, and went to the hotel. my roommate is IT for our kentucky distribution center, so we hung out, talked…and ordered room service.
saturday - woke up early, went to the kickoff party…let me tell you about these people, shit they’re perky in the mornings. had a great breakfast, went through the pep rally…and setup the gallerie (which was where we had all the products and stuff setup for sale)…then after all that was done, we got back to the room, showered, dressed, and headed over to rain at the palms hotel and casino. at rain, we had dinner…thank god they fed us…everythign from sushi to fresh roast beef. total yummy treat…and not to mention open bar!! the after meal entertainment was smashmouth…yeah…it was definitely fun. some of us kinda got tired of rain and decided to go to http://www.n9negroup.com/http_docs/ghostbar/vegas/ghost_vegas_home.asp…which is another bar in the palms. it had the most amazing view of vegas…55 stories up, a complete view of all the lights of vegas. they had this one piece of plexi glass…on the floor outside in the open air bar…no net, nothing…you stand there, look down, and you see, 55 stories down…kinda weak-in-the-knee scary…but amazing. some dude decided that he was going to be cool and jump up and down on that plexi glass…we left him to his own devices. anyway, had a really good time…but knowing we would have a horribly busy day, we decided to bouce after that.
sunday morning found me a little hung over…but manageable…until i got to the gallerie. just to give you an idea on how big this place is…we had to allot “commute time” to walk to the convention center. it took about 20 minutes to walk from my room to the convention center…and i was still in the same hotel…the 20 minutes was pure walking…and that means excluding the elevator ride. anyway…so, we were supposed to be open to the employees working the symposium around 8…at 745, the server containing the software for the point-of-sales system died…all registers died along with it. we had people coming out the wazoo in lines…all were just freaking out. for 3 hours after that, we ran around and tried to get it up and running. people were waiting on line for over an hour to pay for their stuff…must’ve been a hell of a discount. so 10 hours later…and absolutely no feeling in my leg or feet, we closed down for the night. my friend sabrina and i worked out this whole system as to how we handled the customers and transactions. we were doing 3 transactions at the same time…but we kept up with all of it…no sweat. definitely made a good team. anyway, after closing, we headed to the “grand opening” that night…and watched some of the most amazing performers from cirque du soleil. i went back to my room, skipped the after party, and decided to crash for the night.
monday found me pretty much the same as sunday, with hordes of people lining up to buy things, disgruntled, but ready with their cash and cards. only today, i was smarter…i decided to screw putting on my shoes…and went just in my socks…made my feet a whole hell of a lot more comfortable. sabrina and i by this time are working so well together that we had, according the customers, “the fastest moving line”. monday night found us having a free night…the girls decided to all head out to bellagio and see what vegas looked like…so we did…ate at the bellagio, gambled a little there…and when the vibe didn’t feel right, we headed back to mandalay bay. karen, one of the girls in our group, decided to teach us how to gamble…and so we did. i was up about $100…then lost $20 on the slots. *shrug* oh well. anyway, i ended the night around 2am at the craps table.
tuesday morning found me tired as all hell…but happy that the trip was drawing to a close. we all worked through the day, and closed down…packed up the boxes to be shipped home…and went to a staff party. had a great time there…went back to the room, had dinner with friends, and then everyone flew home on the red-eye. i had opted to stay until the next morning.
wednesday morning i was up and at ‘em at 430…and flew home around 7.
all in all, i had a good time, walked a great deal (measures it using one of those walking things, and it came up to be over 40 miles for the whole time i was there). anyway, i really did have a good time, tired…and stressful at times, but overall, a very very good time. i’m thankful that i had this opportunity to be somewhere i’ve never been…was definitely a memorable trip. i did take some pics that i’m sure i’ll post at some point…
hope you all had a good weekend as well…leaving now…see ya!
